Einbürgerungstest & Leben in Deutschland
Germany's citizenship test (Einbürgerungstest) and the Leben in Deutschland test at the end of the integration course draw from one official question catalogue published by the BAMF. Your preparation set is 310 questions: the 300 general questions plus the 10 questions for the Land (federal state) where you live. The real sitting has 33 questions and you pass the Einbürgerungstest with 17 correct; the same sitting counts for Leben in Deutschland at 15 correct. Pick your Land below to start. New to the format? How the test works
- 33 questions per sitting: 30 from the general catalogue plus 3 from your Land's questions, each with four possible answers.
- 60 minutes to answer them, under supervision.
- Pass mark 17 of 33 for the Einbürgerungstest (naturalization).
- 15 of 33 passes the same sitting as the Leben in Deutschland test for integration-course purposes; at 17 it also proves the knowledge naturalization requires.
- 25 Euro fee, paid per sitting.
- Taken in person at a BAMF-approved test centre (Prüfstelle, usually a Volkshochschule), never online. The certificate stays valid if you move within Germany.
The questions on this section come from the official BAMF Gesamtfragenkatalog (catalogue Stand 07.05.2025), published by the Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge as the official study catalogue for these tests. The BAMF notes that the wording of individual questions and answers in the catalogue may deviate slightly from the questions used in the live test papers. Solvi is not affiliated with the BAMF.
